US stainless imports were up 9% in May, according to US Census Bureau preliminary data. Imports totaled 104,907 tonnes, compared to 96,022 t in April. But imports are up 14% when compared to May 2006, when they totaled 92,203 t.

CR sheet imports increased 15% from 28,000 t to 32,100 t and CR narrow strip fell 17% from 3,330 t to 2,760 t. Semis increased 14% from 8,700 t to 9,900 t.

Ingots and stainless pipe and tubing both saw decreases in shipments. Ingots fell 35% from 1,870 t to 1,230 t, and stainless pipe fell 7% from 13,900 t to 13,000 t.
